Show Your WESTSIDE Art Prize and Exhibition 2024 Terms and Conditions
ELIGIBILITY
- The Promotion is open to Australian residents aged 5 years and over, subject to agreement by their parent or guardian.
- Entry into the prize is free.
- This year's theme is "Westside Stories", inviting artists to explore and interpret narratives, experiences, and perspectives associated with the western suburbs of Melbourne.
- You may enter the exhibition a maximum of one time (one artwork per entry). There is no guarantee the artwork will be exhibited as places are limited.
- There will be Twelve (12) prizes to be won. All amounts in AUD, to be supplied as a direct money transfer to your nominated bank account.

- The prizes are not transferable or exchangeable.
- Installation costs are free to the artist, unless additional measures beyond standard installation are required.
- You may enter the exhibition a maximum of one time (one artwork per entry). There is no guarantee the artwork will be exhibited as places are limited.
- To enter (adults) will need to provide a copy of an original artistic work, which includes but is not limited to; paintings, drawings, photographs, engravings, sculptures, audio-visual, installations and performance work (Artwork).
- The Artwork must not have previously been exhibited for an art prize, including Show Your WESTSIDE 2023. The artwork must have been created in the last five years.
- To enter you must complete an online entry form, which must be received by 10pm, Friday 1 July 2024. The completed entry form must be accompanied by:
- a short description of the artwork (max 50 words each Artwork);
- for adults; a high-resolution JPEG image of the actual Artwork, named with the appropriate naming format (Lastname_Firstname_ArtworkTitle)
- To be eligible for the student prizes (youth), entrants must be currently enrolled at an Australian primary or high school institution and present a valid student ID card upon request.
- All information included in the entry must be true. Incorrect information may make entries ineligible, and the artist may be held responsible for any loss caused to the organiser.
- Artists must ensure that they can meet all Terms and Conditions before entering this Award.
- The artwork must be available for the duration of the exhibition.
- Artists agree that by entering this Award to promise that:
- The artwork is their sole original work.
- The Artist has the power to grant the rights under the artwork.
- The Artist has obtained any appropriate releases, including locations, collaborators, and/or performers.
- The Artist is entitled to reproduce any rights in the artwork.
- The Artist will compensate Lady Mohawk for any loss resulting from breach of these promises.
- Incomplete, illegible, or incorrect entries; entries not accompanied by an Artwork; entries received after the closing date; Artworks not suitably framed and ready to hang or otherwise prepared to install; or which breach any law or infringe any third-party rights, including intellectual property rights, will not be eligible to win and will not be exhibited.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Entry in the prize and exhibition is open only to artists who work, live or study in the Local Government Areas of the Western suburbs of Melbourne (including City of Brimbank, City of Hobsons Bay, City of Maribyrnong, City of Melton, City of Moonee Valley, and City of Wyndham).
- The Organiser will endeavour to exhibit the Artwork of each applicant. The works of these entrants will be shown unless deemed too fragile, dangerous, inappropriate, not ready for installation, or the exhibition has reached capacity.
- Shortlisting for exhibition requires relevance to the Selection Criteria, once the artwork passes all eligibility requirements.
HOW TO ENTER
- To enter the exhibition entrants must:
- Submit Artwork that responds to the theme of “Westside Stories”, inviting artists to explore and interpret narratives, experiences, and perspectives associated with the western suburbs of Melbourne.
- Submit a completed entry form via the online entry platform that includes (for adults) a digital image of the artwork (maximum file size accepted is 5mB (5000KB) by the close date. Changes to artwork names, dimensions, mediums or dates will not be accepted after entry form is submitted.
- All entries will be reviewed to ensure that they are eligible for exhibition and ineligible entrants will be notified. Although we endeavour to include all entries. Once the maximum entries have been reached, will be unable to include any further artworks in the exhibition.
Exhibition will be open weekdays from 2 August 2024 to 30 August 2024. Opening Night 2 August 2024, 5.30pm to 8.30pm.
JUDGING
- There will be Twelve (12) prize categories: First, Second, Third, two Adult Highly Commended, two youth (Primary & Secondary) prizes, two youth Highly Commended, a People's Choice Award and Littlefoot Special Merit award selected from the valid entries. There will be one door voucher awarded on the night to any adult attendee.
- The same entry is able to win multiple prizes.
- The first, second, third, highly commended and student prize winners will be selected on the basis of the artistic technique and execution of their artwork and how it best responds to the theme, as judged by the judge/s.
- The first, second, third, highly commended, student prizes and Littlefoot Special Merit award winners will be announced at the exhibition opening on Friday 2 August 2024. Winners will be contacted via email and have their names published online at on Lady Mohawk (Organiser) and participating sponsors social media channels.
- The People's Choice Award will be selected at the end of the exhibition period based on votes through a manual voting box at the exhibition. The work that receives the most votes will be the people’s choice award winner.
- The People's Choice Award winner will be notified at the end of the exhibition, once the votes have been tallied. They will be contacted by email and their name published online Instagram/Facebook @Lady.Mohawk and participating sponsors social media channels
- Winners (excluding People’s Choice) will be contacted by email and follow up phone call for prize delivery. If a winner has not made contact by 16 August 2024 the winner will forfeit the prize.
- People’s Choice winner will be contacted after the voting closes on 30 August 2024.
- No prizes can be collected unless the winner provides photo proof of identity, which is satisfactory to the Organiser
- Student prize recipients must show valid student ID satisfactory to the Organiser to claim the prize.
- The Artworks must be available for display for the entire duration of the exhibition. Only Artworks that are chosen, and are submitted for display at the Footscray Connectivity Centre exhibition are eligible to win in any category.
- Entrants selected for the exhibition will be contacted by Friday 15 July 2024.
EXHIBITION
The Exhibitions will run from Friday 2 August – Friday 30 August 2024. The exhibition will be held at the Footscray Connectivity Centre (VU Metrowest), 138 Nicholson Street Footscray.
- All digital artwork will require the artist to provide the television screen and headphones. Performance art is to provide a video of the work proposed.
- 2D and 3D works must not exceed 150x150cm (this includes frames and/or series). Works above this size will not be exhibited.
- Works selected must be delivered ready for installation. Lady Mohawk will only display works that can be ready for installation or hung using the following methods: pins or blu-tack attached to prints, frames/canvas with D-rings or wire, mounted prints with batons, prints mounted on foam core.
- Works must be delivered to the Footscray Connectivity Centre at 138 Nicholson Street, Footscray between 9am-5pm on 29 July 2024. Works must be clearly labelled with the artists name, title of the work, and contact details.
- Entrants take all responsibility for the transport of their work to and from the Footscray Connectivity Centre.
- Entries must be collected from the Footscray Connectivity Centre on Monday 2 September 2024, at the end of the exhibition. Any uncollected works will be disposed of at the Organisers discretion.
- All care will be taken, however the Organiser will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any works howsoever caused. It is encouraged that the Artists take out their own insurance to cover their artwork during the art exhibition.
- If for any reason any aspect of this competition or exhibition is not capable of running as planned due to any cause beyond the control of the Organiser, the Organiser may in their sole discretion cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition and its associated exhibitions.
- Artworks can be offered for sale to the public. If you indicate your Artwork is for sale, the price you set will be displayed with the exhibited Artwork. Buyers will arrange purchase through the artist. The Organiser and Partners take no responsibility for the sale of the artwork.
- Artwork that is sold but not collected by the purchaser the day of pick up from the exhibition closing will be returned to the artist and the artist will be required to pick the art up.
- The Organiser and partners will curate, install and de-install the exhibitions.
- Exhibitors are responsible for providing equipment to exhibit their Artwork. All Artworks and equipment must comply with OH&S regulations.
- Artists give permission for the Organiser and Partners to use:
- images of entered work;
- their name, biographical details and likeness for marketing purposes associated with Show Your WESTSIDE Art Prize & Exhibition
- The artist will be attributed to the work as reasonably possible wherever the image is reproduced.
- Prize winners who are professional artists with the provision of Artwork as part of their business enterprise, will need to provide a tax invoice and ABN. Prize winners who have entered the competition in the furtherance of an activity done as a private recreational pursuit or hobby will need to provide a completed Statement by a Supplier as a reason for not quoting their ABN.
- The Organiser and Partners and their associated agencies and companies will not be liable for any loss (including, without limitation, indirect, special or consequential loss or loss of profits), expense, damage, personal injury, illness or death which is suffered or sustained (whether or not arising from any person’s negligence) in connection with this competition, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law (in which case that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law). Nothing in these conditions restricts, excludes or modifies or purports to restrict, exclude or modify any statutory consumer rights under any applicable law including the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth).
PERSONAL INFORMATION
- The Organiser will collect your personal information, including your name, likeness, email address and social media account details which it will keep private.
- In the event that you are a winner of the Promotion, you consent to the disclosure, publication and dissemination of your name and likeness for the purposes of the Promotion, and advertising and marketing purposes (as winner of the Promotion).
- The Organiser and Partners accept no responsibility for any entries not received for any reason during the Promotion Period. No responsibility will be taken for lost, late or misdirected entries. The Organiser is not responsible for technical difficulties with the entry mechanism and does not warrant that the entry mechanism will be available at all times.
DECISION FINAL
- In all matters relating to the Promotion, including installations and awards, all decisions of the judges, Lady Mohawk and Partners will be final and cannot be contested. No correspondence or discussions will be entered into. Judges’ feedback on submitted artwork will not be provided.
All exhibition dates and processes are entirely dependent on the COVID-19 situation in Victoria and are subject to change.
